Sorry , should have said MATCH FITNESS
Can train all you like and obviously modern players are physically fit but thats different to playing in a match

Mentioned that the likes of Coventry have the chance to impress but most regulars are going to tick over and do what they need.
To be honest I'd play friendlies behind closed doors and not report the 'scores'.
We got absolutely EVISCERATED at home by Championship Bournemouth in the last friendly last season.
Wouldnt take any result good or bad to heart but hopefully against Atalanta we can put out the team we plan to take to Newcastle.

Re: Brentford Friendly - Live on BT Sport 1
Yeah, it wasn’t that bad, we clearly had an edge but we struggled to find a way to improve on 0-1

It was a bit sloppy in parts, but that’s it.

I don’t agree about friendlies being about fitness. They’re not Saturday and Sunday morning players, fitness is a bit of a given, although friendlies are helpful. I think they are more a dress rehearsal for fringe players, they have the chance to perform when they have first team players around them. Also, it’s a chance to try a few things they might not risk in a proper competitive game.

Am I alone in quite enjoying that game then?

I think Fredricks may be allergic to footballs by the way he jumps out of the way of them but thought that we played okay.

Nice to see Cresswell as Captain as a bit of a reward for the yards, crosses and quality from last season. Said it before but his is one position Moyes can't fill if he gets injured. Arthur

We can’t be critical of other stadiums…?

I know what you mean but I’m not sure we’re in a position to rip the kids out of anybody when their own purpose built ground!

Didn't watch but its all about miles in the legs and the chance for the likes of Coventry to push themselves forward.
Was reading that Soucek & Coufal were back in training last week (+ Yarmolenko) and presume Rice will start training Monday.

Areola, Rice Soucek, Coufal, Ogbonna & Bowen to come back in and hopefully next week we finalise Pereira ... and OTHERS.

On to the next one

I was playing football, so I didn't watch this, but good news that Benrahma got a good goal, and Coventry seems to have played well.

Coincidently, one of my shots went out for a throw-in, too...

Bowen is not going to Liverpool.

Saw 25 mins of the 2nd half

My takeaway, Noble should have retired last season

Fuck me, how many balls did he give away ?

Re: Brentford Friendly - Live on BT Sport 1
I had high hopes but a poor match in general. Antonios shot that went off for a throw summed it up.
A number of players there that did themselves no favours in getting a chance in the first team.
I thought Lanzini looked better in a deeper role, particularly as he is comfortable on the ball and can see a forward pass instead of the constant safety pass backwards of Noble.
I wouldn't pay to see that so glad I didn't.
Benrahma has looked decent going forward and stronger in pre-season - less so tracking back but I'm hopeful we will see more from him this season. Goals like today's would definitely be a positive as we don't break down teams well.

Coventry is getting better and better. A little bit more confidence with his shooting, that will come . Worth keeping him close to the team and not just the bench.
Noble actually neat and tidy. But not a starter.
Antonio didn't really have anyone near him for the last 20 mins. Ings will be the man to play alongside him at times or replace him in certain games.

Fab 7
Fred 6.5 better 2nd half
Diop 7
Dawson 7
Cresswell 7
Coventry 7
Fornals 7
Lanzini 6.5
Johnson 6
Benrhama 7.5
Antonio 7

Noble 6.5
Alves 6

What the fuck was up with the seats at Brentford? 4 or 5 different colours seemingly at random

Looked like a kids lego set

I thought Coventry played well. It was a good test for him. He didn’t do everything right but he never hid and I think he has the right attitude and quality to play a part in the season as a squad player.

Alves looked shaky. Diop hasn’t improved. We really need a CB and a forward.

Re: Brentford Friendly - Live on BT Sport 1
What a boring match.
Diop, Fredericks, Coventry, Johnson, Alves are quite frankly not good enough for PL.
It's just luck we didn't conceded this match.

We need another CB, LB, and two strikers if Bowen is going to Liverpool

Coventry is a better bet than Noble these days.

Re: Brentford Friendly - Live on BT Sport 1
One thing the game today and last week proves ( as if we didn't already know it) is that at the very least we definitely need QUALITY additions down the centre of the park - c/half, c/mid and striker. Alves and Coventry not ready yet, Nobel fine for the last 20 to see a game out, Lanzini OK in c/mid against the poorer teams, Diop OK as cover, Antonio needs help.
